If your lashes drop their curl by lunchtime, it might be your curler, not your lashes. Here's how a classic clamp curler compares with a heated eyelash curler, and how to choose.
How a regular clamp curler works
A clamp curler bends lashes by pressing them between two pads. It's quick and inexpensive, but on straight or heavy lashes the curl can fade within a few hours. Clamping too close to the lid can also pinch.
How a heated eyelash curler works
A heated curler adds gentle warmth, like a hair styler on a much smaller scale. Some are comb-shaped wands; others, like ours, are a small clip with a warm, curved silicone pad. The warmth helps lashes take a lifted shape, so you can use a lighter press than with a cold clamp.
Side by side
- Hold: warmth helps lashes take the shape, especially straight lashes.
- Pressure: with heat you can use a lighter press, which many people find more comfortable.
- Speed: cold clamp curlers are instant; heated curlers need a few seconds to warm up.
- Power: heated curlers need charging; cold curlers don't.
How to use a heated curler safely
- Test the warmth on the back of your hand first.
- Look down into a mirror and place the curler at the base of your lashes, not on the lid.
- Close gently, hold for a few seconds, then release.
The verdict
If your curl drops quickly or your lashes are straight, a heated curler is worth trying. Our Heated Eyelash Curler is rechargeable, has two heat settings and ships free to the US and UK.
